Baby Room Inspiration

When talking about the baby room one of the most common questions is 'What's the theme?'. I say jungle but that doesn't quite describe it. It's a little jungle, a little geometric, a little DIY, a little old and a little new. For months I've scoured Pinterest and design blogs for inspiration and to try to give Travis a vision of what I'm picturing. While there are plenty of rooms and styles I like, there hasn't been one that encompasses everything I want. So here's a little compilation to get you inspired for what Baby Moore's room will soon be - hopefully it will come together as a room perfectly suited for our 765 Nest.

Market Hunting

One of the perks of my job is that while I'm off hunting for treasures for our store I'm also eyeing all of the perfect things for 765. Last round I scored two stools for the kitchen bar. This time I was on the search for pendant lights to hang over our dining table. (Because that brass lamp is still around) After days of sending photographs back to Travis I finally pulled the trigger and bought two of the globe pendant lights. But what that really means is a new project: electrical.

And maybe next time around the other bottom light will be purchased for the shed!

Cheers to 2011

If you remember last year, we toasted to the end of the year with a glass of Blue Moon and our freshly picked oranges. All 2 of them. I figured this year we would continue the tradition since our trees were a bit more fruitful, nearly bent to the ground with the weight of the citrus.

It has been a good year at 765.

We dug up our front yard to make room for a vegetable garden and hopeful wedding flowers. In the process we found treasures that dated our house.

Travis and I sanded and sanded and sanded to get the years of paint off our cabinets. I still stand back and just look at them sometimes. They sure are pretty.

We got MARRIED. I'm so glad we had the wedding blog, because you quickly forget how much time, energy and emotion went into the whole day. But it we perfect.

The shed got a pair of beautiful doors to finish it off, but not without a few losses. Thanks again Mitch!

Chickens found a home in our yard once again.

We had a bountiful front yard. So many cucumbers we had a to find new recipes for them.

Travis (and his supervisor) dabbled in some plumbing.

And we realized we have the best dog EVER.

Cheers to one memorable year, and an even better 2012!

Fire(less) Place

On a frigid night nothing seems more enticing than sitting next to the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa, falling asleep to the crackling as it dies down. We've got the fireplace, but the fire? Not so much. A previous owner broke down the chimney in attic - lighting a fire would make our house smokier than a Louisiana bar. Not only does it lack a chimney, but it's also an original coal burning fireplace. While this could have some advantages (longer burning time & more cost effective) it's also a hazard when burned because it releases carbon monoxide.

So instead of risking our health we'll just have to get creative with the space. Maybe some homemade logs, a plethora of candles or even some books to fill the space?

Project Dreams

Major improvements both inside and out have taken a bit of a back seat this past week to cooking, cleaning, and well...life. It has however, given us a chance to ponder the living room, the arrangement of all the pieces of furniture that have been accumulated, and how we can fit a dining table in there, thus beginning new projects.

We all know I have a thing for chairs, and at some point I will get my hands on the ones sitting in the kitchen area. Maybe something a little like this I stumbled up on Design Sponge:

{cute!}

Mary passed along some backyard projects from Sunset that were exactly what we had been talking about. SOMEDAY when we are done rebuilding the shed, putting on a new roof, and planting our edible front yard we'll start to think about the deck we are going to construct off the back door. It will most definitely include this shower, built off of our rain tank for an au-natural shower, in more ways than one....

And if the whole front yard being transformed into our personal produce stand isn't quite enough, lets include these modern wall planters to add some space and spruce up that shed we will have finished.

Modern hanging baskets
{old rusty orange siding: like}

But for now we'll leave those on our inspiration board, we've got sinks to unclog and mosquitoes to kill.
