First Signs of Spring

Daylight savings brought on an immediate motivation to get projects done around 765.

First up? A walkway from our house to the shed.

This has been on the list a while, but there has always been a bit of a debate as to how we would do it. Travis and I began breaking up the dirt, uncovering a brick walkway that seems as if a previous owner got tired of it all and threw dirt on top, hoping grass would grow. After much discussion we thought we had come up with the right design/proportions, until we dug a little further. A massive block of concrete buried near the shed from an old fence post left us changing dimensions.

Concrete for the first pad is poured, two more square pads and a whole bunch of bricks to come. Pending the weather, of course.

Spring Planting

While 765 hasn't seen much as far as projects go, the front garden has been busy re-sprouting from last years crop without any effort from us. Letting some of the vegetables drop or go to seed has proven the best (and easiest) method for gardening this Spring.
Tomatoes are sprouting up stronger than my babied seeds.
Basil has come up in between the cracks of the bricks.
One squash came back and battled through two frosts.
Zinnias. If you would like a seedling please stop by, we have more than enough.
And one bell pepper is still going from last year. Stud.
We filled in the gaps with even more tomatoes, every color bell pepper, jalapeno peppers, eggplant, and cucumbers. Along with a test run of peas.
Let the battle with the Tomato Hornworms begin.

Hi there dear old blog!
I know it's been far too long and I wish I could say you have all missed so much going on at 765, but the truth is there hasn't been much going on here. In fact, I've probably missed 765 as much as some of you guys. You see, there has been some traveling. And then a little more. Plus some cold weather. And of course Mardi Gras season. That left projects at 765 on the back burner while we spent time traveling and playing.
But what better day to get back into it than Leap Day?! So here is a little summary of what we've been up to. Play time is now over though, let the projects begin!

I Can See You

For Christmas Travis and I decided to only exchange stockings this year.
One exciting suprise in mine: a peep hole.
Our front door is armed with an ironwork door and your standard wood door. The ironwork door is great to have open for light, but not something you always want open. The wood door lacked a peephole; not always safe when you are home alone.
Thus, a peep hole. It wasn't a huge undertaking to install, but it's usually the little things that are most exciting.

Cheers to 2011

If you remember last year, we toasted to the end of the year with a glass of Blue Moon and our freshly picked oranges. All 2 of them. I figured this year we would continue the tradition since our trees were a bit more fruitful, nearly bent to the ground with the weight of the citrus.

It has been a good year at 765.

 

We dug up our front yard to make room for a vegetable garden and hopeful wedding flowers. In the process we found treasures that dated our house.

Travis and I sanded and sanded and sanded to get the years of paint off our cabinets. I still stand back and just look at them sometimes. They sure are pretty.

We got MARRIED. I'm so glad we had the wedding blog, because you quickly forget how much time, energy and emotion went into the whole day. But it we perfect.

The shed got a pair of beautiful doors to finish it off, but not without a few losses. Thanks again Mitch!

Chickens found a home in our yard once again.

We had a bountiful front yard. So many cucumbers we had a to find new recipes for them.

Travis (and his supervisor) dabbled in some plumbing.

And we realized we have the best dog EVER.
